If you have been following us on Instagram recently, you know that Earth Off The Grid is dedicated to sharing travel photos of places that we have visited. As our following grew, so did our realization that we have the opportunity to share more than just pictures. To provide a little background on us, we are a husband and wife team that met in 2015 and was married in June 2018. Our interest in travel and adventure was there from the start, and our love for unique places had us adventuring regularly. After getting married, we started going international more, and now we have a worldwide trip scheduled to start in June 2019. This sounds great to us, but what does that mean for you, our readers? Being our first post, we wanted to highlight the things to expect from Earth Off The Grid.
1. Airline deals and best use for credit card points
A lot of our air travel is purchased using credit card points. But not all credit card points are created equal. One of our goals with this website is to inform and educate you about how powerful credit card points are, and what you can actually buy with them. We will even go over how to use “partner” airline points to purchase airfare at a significantly reduced cost. If you don’t own a credit card that makes you points for every dollar that you spend, you are missing out.
2. Travel tips and tricks
After you have been travelling for a while, you start to get a feel for how things work, and how you can beat the system. Travelling is no easy task, and can sometimes be extremely stressful. From waiting in the security line, to transferring planes, to locating you hotel/Airbnb, things can be overwhelming. We are here to help ease the anxiety that is sometimes placed into our lives when traveling. Traveling is supposed to be fun, which is why it is called a vacation, right? We have made the mistakes, and learned from the process. We plan on sharing these travel tips and tricks with you, so you don’t have to make the same mistakes that we did!
3. Photography tours of places visited
The main reason that Earth Off The Grid was originally started was to share travel photos that we took at the places that we traveled to. We started an account on Instagram and quickly built a respectable following. Unfortunately, we could only share our absolute best following on Instagram, but there are more plenty of more pictures taken in those beautiful places. Our goal here is to share those pictures with you and show you what else we saw during our travels. This will be really fun to see what else we stumbled upon and we will also be offering some photography tips in these posts if we see interest in that.
4. Adobe Lightroom presets
Many photographers spend years trying to hone in on their craft, but they lack in the editing department. Earth Off The Grid has also spent years on improving our editing skills, and with that, we consider ourselves to be very well versed in Adobe Lightroom. Our goal is to pass on those edits to you. If you have been looking to take your photography to the next level, or just want your photos to look better, we are going to have some Lightroom presets available for sale very shortly. Presets can take the frustration out of editing and help you focus more on taking the actual pictures. If you like our pictures, you will like our presets. Check out our lightroom presets page to see what we have.
5. Itineraries
Itineraries can be complex or very simple. We have been asked many questions about how to travel affordably and efficiently. Not everyone has the time to plan out a 6 month worldwide trip, but since we do, we learned a TON about how to research the best flights, times, locations, etc.. Questions will come up when you are planning your trips. Should I book nonstop or connecting flights? Which flights are the cheapest? Should I book 2 separate one way flights, or 1 round trip flights? You get the point, there are many more questions that will be answered on this website that will help you efficiently plan your itinerary. In the United States, you rarely hear about someone taking a vacation longer than 2 weeks because of work related responsibilities. We are here to give you information that will make the most out of your travel time.
6. Airline reviews and airport lounge reviews
Choosing an airline can be simple or it can be complicated. Should I go with the budget airline or the tried and true airline with great service? Most people will go with the cheapest ticket they can find, but choosing the correct airline is important. Some airlines are notorious for being late, some have cramped seating, some have old planes. These are all important factors when determining what airline you are going to fly with. Don’t worry though, we will be doing some reviews of US based carriers and international carriers.
Has anyone ever been to a lounge at an airport? We never even knew that was a thing until a couple of years ago. I was oblivious to the fact that there are lounges with more space, more peace and quiet, free food, free drinks, showers, etc… Although these lounges may be expensive to access without the proper knowledge, you can get into many of them for free if you have the right credit card. So you can build points with your credit card, and you can get into lounges for free. We are going to review those airport lounges and tell you how we were able to get inside those lounges.
Main point
We have travelled, and we are going to do more travelling. We are going to document our travels, and pass down everything that we have learned to you, our readers. We are going to cover everything from photography, to itineraries, to reviews of everything travel related. We are looking forward to sharing what we have learned. Most importantly, let’s not forget why we originally started Earth Off The Grid. We wanted to share with the world the beautiful places that we have traveled. Stay tuned.
